Addlethorpe's Harvest Festival
Once again our Harvest Festival was a colourful and joyous occasion.
On Sunday 25th September we celebrated the Harvest along with "Back to Church" Sunday, under the leadership of Dot MacMillan. The Service was attended by a congregation of over 50, including 7 youngsters under 10 years old. We did wonder why Dot had turned up with a heap of buckets but it soon became apparent when she had the youngsters at the front of the church working out how they use water every day. Eventually we had a long line of buckets down the aisle, representing the gallons of water we each use daily; did you realise that we each use, on average, 36 buckets of water EVERY DAY! Yet in some parts of our world water is a scarce commodity. Does it matter to us? Should it matter to us? There was a sketch which Dot had brought along with her, acted out by Stuart & Jacquie, to challenge us to think about our response to things going on elsewhere that don't necessarily affect us, personally, on a day-to day basis.
The theme for the flower displays this year followed the hymn "Think of a world without....". Enid made a superb job, as usual, and the Chapel looked magnificent. Each verse of the hymn was represented, both in flowers, print and accessories. What would our world be like without flowers, and trees, and animals, etc!
Thanks to Dot and Enid and everyone who helped out at the Tea, as well as Stuart & Dennis for acting as our Auctioneers on the Monday evening.
